Performance Zehra Doğan / Weiße Fahne
20. February 2020
5 pm Performance Weiße Fahne (c. half an hour)
7 pm Talk with Zehra Doğan
In cooperation with Deutscher Journalistenverband Landesverband Hessen
The double exhibition Der Zeit ihre Kunst / Der Kunst ihre Freiheit is supported by Hessische Kulturstiftung.
Zehra Doğan is coming to Wiesbaden. Her works are already here: Accusations painted in custody, pictures of torture, murder and other injustices against Kurdish women. They are currently on show at the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden under the title To art its freedom.
The German Association of Journalists - DJV-Hessen - awarded the Kurdish journalist and artist on May 3rd, 2018 (on the International Day of Freedom of the Press) with its "pen for freedom of the press". At that time she was still in detention in Diyarbakir. People around the world had campaigned for her release. British street artist Banksy protested against her arrest with a mural in New York.
Since January 24th and until March 8th 2020, the exhibition has been running with pictures that were secretly developed in prisons; painted from leftovers and menstrual blood on cardboard and bed sheets. A very touching show. DJV, Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden and many volunteers have helped to fulfill this project.
Taking place on Thursday, February 20th 2020 in the framework of the solo exhibition:
5 pm Performance White Flag (about half an hour)
7 pm Talk with Zehra Doğan as well as
