With the Opelvillen Rüsselsheim Art and Culture Foundation, the Museum Sinclair-Haus in Bad Homburg, the Kunstforum der TU Darmstadt, the MGGU in Frankfurt, the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden and the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden, six renowned cultural institutions in the region are joining forces for the INTERIOR cooperation project, which opened in September 2024. The impetus for the network came from the listed Opel villas, which were built as residential buildings and have been used as an exhibition venue since 2003.
What all six INTERIOR partner institutions have in common is that they have found their place in buildings that were originally built for other purposes and not for cultural use. All of the exhibition centres have an eventful history that has been forgotten since their conversion into a museum or exhibition venue. While the Opelvillen in Rüsselsheim, the Sinclair-Haus Museum in Bad Homburg, the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden and the MGGU in Frankfurt were once private homes, the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden uses the premises of a school and the Kunstforum Darmstadt uses the machine hall of a university to exhibit contemporary art.
With the INTERIOR project, the cooperating cultural institutions will bring the history of their buildings to life in a series of exhibitions from autumn 2024 to spring 2025. In addition to the exhibition series, an online presence will be developed in which the transformation of the respective buildings from their original use to the present day will be presented digitally in story guides.
The INTERIOR project is made possible by the generous support of the Cultural Office of the State Capital of Wiesbaden and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.
