With the solo exhibition Ansichten aus Syrien at the Nassauische Kunstverein Wiesbaden, works of Tahani Munawar (* 1990, Damascus) are on display for the first time in Europe.

After studying art pedagogics the artist worked, in addition to her free activity, with children as an art teacher; both with great risks due to the political situation and the problem of censorship. Art was also the only way to express an individual feeling. The exhibition presents two works exclusively created after her arrival in Germany, as her studio in Syria was deliberately destroyed by fire in July 2016. After a successful family reunification, Tahani Munawar processes in addition to the current situation in Syria also the previous, long phase of uncertainty and insecurity. While in Syria she mainly used the faster aquarelle technique, she chose for her new works, realizing her memories of the state of war, oil on canvas, in direct reference to classical history painting.
