39 Thank You Art Day was initiated by the japanese artist Yoshiaki Kaihatsu in 2000 to bring forward the public appreciation for contemporary art. In Japanese "thank you" sounds similar to 3/9 (san kyuu). Therefore March 9th (3/9) is the chosen day.
